LAPIS Semiconductor sells its Optical Semiconductor
Business to America's Neophotonics
LAPIS Semiconductor Co., Ltd. (Yokohama, Japan), subsidiary of ROHM Co., Ltd. today announced agreement under which LAPIS Semiconductor will transfer its optical semiconductor business to Neophotonics (CA, U.S.A.), manufacturer of communication devices on March 1, 2013.
The subject of transfer is all the business implemented by optical semiconductor business unit of LAPIS Semiconductor. NeoPhotonics will take over all the workplaces such as factories of optical semiconductor business unit in Tokyo, Japan and continue their operations.
LAPIS group has engaged in developing, manufacturing and sales of devices and modules for high speed optical communication as optical semiconductor business, however, the company decided to sell the business unit due to its low synergy effect and affinity for core business of ROHM Group within it has been proceeding selection and concentration of ICs business as a part of ROHM Group.
LAPIS Semiconductor is committed to enhance developing low power consumption microcomputer and logic devices, and system solution synergy with ROHM's analog technology.
